Mexico Public Schools is now accepting applications for a Science Teacher position at Mexico Senior High School for the 2024-2025 school year.

 

 

TITLE:  Science Teacher

 

CATEGORY:  Instructional

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  1. Shall meet all state certification requirements in subject area
  2. Bachelor of Science with major in education
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO:  Principal

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

General Purpose: 

To develop in each pupil an awareness of the role of science in economic and social 

progress; to motivate each pupil to acquire knowledge of scientific facts and principles, 

and skills in scientific methods of problem solving; and to discover and develop special 

talents in scientific fields.

 

Main Job Task and Responsibilities:

  1. Teaches skills, knowledge and scientific attitudes through courses in science (general science, physical science, biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy and physiology to pupils using the curriculum adopted by the Board of Education.
  2. Instructs pupils in basic subject matter specified in state guidelines, administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
  1. Plans a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities for optimal learning.
  1. Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, models, computers and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  1. Seeks, acquires and applies new effective techniques and teaching methodologies.
  2. Selects and requests books, instructional aides, science equipment, chemicals and supplies appropriate to the adopted curriculum, and interest and maturity level of pupils; maintains inventory records as required.
  1. Provides individual or small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
  1. Designs learning activities that will relate science to the physical world.
  2. Establishes and maintains high expectations for self and pupils.
  3. Evaluates each pupil's growth in knowledge and skills in course being taught.
  4. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior for a productive learning environment during class session, laboratory sessions and field trips. 
  1. Instructs pupils in proper use, care and safe handling of chemicals, science equipment and plant and animal life.
  1. Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools.   
  2. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required.
  3. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  1. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  2. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  3. Assists pupils in selection and development of individual research projects.
  4. Cooperates with school administration in providing science displays and programs for the school and community and in sponsoring science activities.
  1. Works cooperatively with clerical personnel, aides and other support staff to create a positive learning and working environment.
  1. Administers group tests as assigned.
  2. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as assigned.
  3. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  4. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  5. Provides input and assistance to administration and other staff members regarding matters related to his/her teaching field to insure a harmonious and productive working environment.
  1. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities as specified in professional development plan.
  1. Assists the administration whenever possible with concerns directly related to his/her classroom responsibilities or other related concerns.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine month

Contract with salary, benefits and work dates to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of 

Education policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
