POSITION TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist - SLP

REPORTS TO:       Director of Special Services

LOCATION:          District Wide



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders
  • Valid Missouri license/certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

 

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic services to students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. This position supports students’ academic achievement and communication development through individualized services aligned with district curriculum and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The SLP collaborates with educators, families, and support staff to ensure effective communication strategies and interventions are implemented across educational settings.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Evaluation and Assessment

  • Conduct speech and language screenings and comprehensive evaluations
  • Interpret assessment results and prepare written evaluation reports
  • Participate in eligibility determination meetings
  • Develop measurable IEP goals related to speech and language services
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations

Service Delivery and Student Support

  • Provide direct and indirect speech-language therapy services in individual and group settings
  • Implement evidence-based interventions aligned with student IEP goals
  • Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate communication strategies into classroom instruction
  • Recommend and support the use of assistive communication devices when appropriate

Communication and Collaboration

  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and strategies
  • Provide consultation to staff regarding speech and language development
  • Collaborate with related service providers and outside agencies as appropriate

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential student records
  • Participate in professional development and remain current on best practices in speech-language pathology
  • Follow district policies, procedures, and professional standards
  • Support district and building initiatives as assigned

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations
  • Attend meetings as assigned
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain accurate documentation required for Medicaid billing and compliance, if applicable
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services or Building Principal

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to move throughout school buildings and classrooms
  • Frequent interaction with students, families, and staff
  • Possible travel between district buildings
  • Participation in meetings or events outside regular hours as needed

 

ATTENDANCE

  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  9 month contract year

Annual contract for school year and Extended School Year, if applicable, in accordance with the provisions of  Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified staff.

Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.



EVALUATION: 

Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with district policies and teacher evaluation procedures.
