POSITION TITLE: Teacher - Kindergarten

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

LOCATION: McMillan Early Learning Center



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate appropriate for early childhood or elementary grade levels
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

 

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Kindergarten Teacher provides developmentally appropriate instruction that supports early childhood learning and prepares students for future academic success. This position fosters a nurturing, structured, and engaging classroom environment focused on foundational literacy, numeracy, social-emotional growth, and school readiness skills. The Kindergarten Teacher collaborates with families, staff, and administrators to support the developmental needs of young learners.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with district curriculum and Missouri Learning Standards for kindergarten
  • Provide foundational instruction in early literacy, numeracy, language development, and social skills
  • Utilize play-based, hands-on, and interactive learning strategies to support student engagement
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varying developmental levels and learning needs
  • Monitor student growth through observation and early childhood assessments

Classroom Environment and Student Support

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and structured classroom that supports young learners
  • Implement positive behavior supports and routines that promote independence and social development
  • Support students’ social-emotional skills, including communication, self-regulation, and collaboration
  • Work with support staff to implement interventions and accommodations as needed

 

Assessment and Communication

  • Conduct age-appropriate assessments to monitor student progress and readiness
  • Maintain accurate records of student development and learning milestones
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, expectations, and classroom activities
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and team meetings

Collaboration and Professional Responsiblities

  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialists, and support staff to support student success
  • Participate in professional development focused on early childhood education
  • Follow district policies, procedures, and professional standards
  • Support school events and family engagement activities as assigned

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Attend meetings as assigned.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Remain current on instructional practices in education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to move throughout the classroom, including sitting on the floor or working at child-height levels
  • Ability to supervise students indoors and outdoors
  • Occasional lifting of classroom materials or assisting young students as needed
  • Participation in school events or meetings outside of regular hours as required

 

ATTENDANCE

  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position

Certified



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  9 month contract year

Annual contract for school year and Extended School Year, if applicable, in accordance with the provisions of  Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified staff.

Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.



EVALUATION: 

Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with district policies and teacher evaluation procedures.
