POSITION TITLE: Mathematics Teacher

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

LOCATION:       High School



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate appropriate for high school Mathematics
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

 

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The High School Math Teacher provides engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. This position fosters a safe and structured learning environment where students develop the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success, post-secondary readiness, and lifelong learning in alignment with district curriculum and Missouri Learning Standards. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver standards-based mathematics instruction aligned with district curriculum and Missouri Learning Standards
  • Teach mathematical concepts and skills appropriate to assigned courses, which may include Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Statistics, Trigonometry, or other advanced math courses
  • Develop lessons and instructional activities that promote problem-solving, analytical thinking, and real-world application of mathematical concepts
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities
  • Utilize technology, instructional resources, and data to enhance student learning and engagement
  • Provide intervention, enrichment, and academic support as needed

Classroom Environment and Student Support

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Establish clear expectations for student behavior and academic performance
  • Support students’ academic growth, confidence, and critical-thinking skills
  • Promote student engagement, collaboration, and responsible participation in classroom activities
  • Build positive relationships with students to support academic and social-emotional development


Assessment and Communication

  • Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student performance
  • Analyze student data to guide instruction and improve student achievement
  • Provide timely feedback to students and families regarding progress and performance
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and student support meetings

Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with staff, instructional teams, and administration to support student success and school improvement initiatives
  • Participate in professional development related to mathematics instruction and educational best practices
  • Support district curriculum initiatives and data-driven decision-making
  • Follow district policies, professional standards, and safety procedures
  • Remain current on instructional practices and curriculum standards in mathematics education

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations
  • Attend meetings as assigned
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of mathematics content and instructional practices
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and support student achievement

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Classroom setting within a high school environment
  • Frequent interaction with students, staff, and parents
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, and computer work
  • Occasional lifting of instructional materials up to 20 pounds
  • Participation in school events or meetings outside of regular hours as needed

 

ATTENDANCE

  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position

Salary Grade

Certified

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  9 month contract year

Annual contract for school year and Extended School Year, if applicable, in accordance with the provisions of  Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified staff.

Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.

 

EVALUATION: 

Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with district policies and teacher evaluation procedures.
