POSITION TITLE: Nurse (LPN/RN)

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification

REPORTS TO: Director of Health Services and/or Building Principal

LOCATION: District Wide

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The School Nurse is responsible for providing medical care and health services to students and staff. This role involves assessing and treating student injuries and illnesses, administering medications, managing chronic health conditions, and providing emergency care when necessary. The nurse will also ensure that students' health records are up-to-date, collaborate with school staff on health-related issues, and promote a safe and healthy school environment. The position requires the ability to work independently while following school district policies and procedures

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with current state license.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Provide first aid and emergency care for students and staff as needed.
  • Administer medications to students according to school policies and individual health plans.
  • Assess and manage student illnesses and injuries, including minor cuts, bruises, and allergic reactions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including medical histories, treatments, and any medication administered.
  • Collaborate with school staff and administrators to address health-related concerns and ensure students' health needs are met.
  • Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding student health concerns, injuries, or illness.
  • Follow school district health and safety policies, including protocols for managing communicable diseases.
  • Ensure that the school environment is safe and sanitary, promoting overall health and wellness.
  • Provide health education and support to students on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and personal health.
  • Respond to medical emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.
  • Assist with the implementation of individualized health plans for students with chronic conditions or special health needs.
  • Maintain and inventory medical supplies and equipment, ensuring proper storage and organization.
  • Promote student wellness and serve as a resource for health-related concerns within the school community.




OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Remain current on instructional practices in education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 month employment

Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with 

provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
